Public Speaking
I've often been invited by people to talk about particular topics! Below is a list of the events I've been invited to that I'm particularly proud of. Feel free to contact me if you think I'd be a good speaker for your event!
2024
- 17th May 2024: Ran a simplified version of Dungeons & Dragons in an hour for 120 people at Hi-Resolution 2024, the company conference organised by Resolution Games. (Photos by Sebastian Bularca: 1, 2, 3)
2023
- 25th October 2023: Internal talk titled Machine Learning and You: Preparing Your Game for Machine Learning Integration given to the entire company at Resolution Games. The talk was about how to structure a project in such a way so as to more efficiently allow for machine learning integration and adding machine learning techniques to games. (Image)
- 28th June 2023: Seminar given to students and faculty at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. The seminar was titled Using AI in Games: Generative Music and VR Bots, and I spoke about different ways to use AI in games, how to automatically generate music for games based off of my PhD work, and how to make bots for the VR game Blaston. - 4th May 2023: Together with Mikhail Jacob, I ran a roundtable discussion titled AI in Games Roundtable at Hi-Resolution 2023, the company conference organised by Resolution Games. The roundtable focused on the use of AI and machine learning techniques in games, and included topics such as generative AI, the ecological ramifications of ML and games, application of ML in game production, and company policy.
2022
- 9th December 2022: 2 hour long lecture given remotely to BSc students at Code University, Berlin, Germany. The lecture was titled Game Design in a Nutshell, and I spoke about the game development process (ideation, discovery, pre-production, production, polish, marketing, launching, and post-launch).
- 7th May 2022: Interviewed by Maltese TV show Gadgets Malta on what it's like making video games. (Link, in Maltese)
- 27th April 2022: Guest on the Maltese radio channel Radju Malta on the show "Maltin Bħalna” hosted by Tony Micallef where I spoke about my experience as a Maltese in Sweden developing video games. (Link, in Maltese)
- 19th January 2022: Internal talk titled AI Techniques in Games: A Short Primer given to the entire company at Resolution Games. The talk was about different AI techniques and how they could be used in game development. (Image)
2021
- 25th November 2021: Spoke at the LiU Game Conference in Linköping, Sweden, where I gave a talk titled Algorithmic Bias: Why And How Do Computers Make Unfair Decisions together with Natalie Mellin. (Link)
- 19th August 2021: Appeared on The Lost Lore Project YouTube channel run by Samantha Wood, where I talked about Folktales on the Origins of the Maltese People (Link)
2020
- 30th December 2020: Gave a talk at the Creswell Crags Midwinter Festival of Folklore, where I spoke about Maltese Winter Folklore. (Link)
- 9th December 2020: Internal talk titled Introduction to Blaston AI given to all programmers at Resolution Games. The talk was about the architecture and functionality of AI bots in Blaston.
- 24th November 2020: Guest on the Campus FM radio show Vjaġġi Enċiklopediċi hosted by Toni Sant where I speak about my experience as a volunteer and contibutor to the Maltese version of Wikipedia. (Link, in Maltese)
2018
- 6th August 2018: Appeared on the Faculty of STEM’s #MeetUsMonday outreach programme at The Open University where I spoke about my PhD work in generative music for computer games (Link)
